PBS is a wonderful resource for teaching social studies. This particular link provides excellent sources for economics with the option of choosing interactive lessons, online lessons, or offline lessons. The lessons have clear instructions and provide you with the national standards.

Description:
This webpage offers a quick lesson on GDP and analysis of economic indicators. Using the US Census bureau stats, students analyze the development of various towns to make conclusions about economic growth. It helps student see how economic activity influences the development of towns. I also like that this activity relates to the business cycle. The students learn from the lesson how economic growth or decline is represented in the business cycle. The lesson offers opportunities for group work and independent work.

It will lead to a great discussion and have a long lasting impact on students. It could be used in History or Government. Description:
This is a resource to help start a Stock Market project in class. This webpage could be used with the Yahoo Finance pages. We have done this in the past but it has fallen by the way side. I think that it is a great project as it could be tied into the business cycle section right before the Great Depression. The market is also connected to current events that are so essential today.

Description:
A wonderful lesson idea on international trade that is great for World History, United States History, or Government. It focuses on reasons why various countries trade and key members of the trade community, as well on key concepts of international trade (comparative advantage and economic interdependence). I like that it includes activities on NATO and other major trade organizations. It includes several activities, but you would not have to do all of the activities to teach the lesson.

Description:
This is a webpage with an easy WebQuest for students over international trade. I really like that it is over bananas, especially given the historical significance of bananas to Norridgewock. It has several hyperlinks to more information about international trade which a very useful. This would be a great idea for United States History or Government.
